Today we are reviewing Simple Truth Diapers in size three. They are a Kroger-specific brand that can be found at Kroger grocery stores such as QFC, Frys, Ralphs, and Fred Meyer. These are available in sizes 2 through 6 and are come in quantities of 31 and 68. For this review, we bought a bag of 31 for $8.99, which brings the cost to 29 cents each. The available value box retails for a price of $17.99, bringing the cost down to 26 cents each. Although these are on the pricy side, they are still a good value for a chlorine-free diaper that is environmentally friendly and that is made using renewable plant-based resources.
The outer shell has two designs. One design has a yellow background with a blue elephant and star pattern across the outer shell. The other design features a pattern of purple penguins on a blue background. Each has a marking that indicates the size on the front right of the waistline and the word "Back" indicating the back written across the rear waistline. These diapers are unique in that they do not have a moisture indicator to let you know visually, that it is soiled and needs changing. This is common amongst other eco-friendly brands as the ingredients used to make up the wetness indicator contain materials that violate the companies pledge to remain environmentally friendly.
The rear wings of this are very tall and have a good amount of stretch to them. The back waistband is also stretchable and allows for a better fit around your baby’s waist. In total, the rear can stretch to 13.5 inches from tab to tab. This is about 1 inch shorter than other brands on average. The front of the diaper does not have any stretch to it at all and features very small wings that look more like fastening tabs than a front wing. The sticky tabs are the tallest measured to date for a size three at 1.5 inches, but the Velcro-like portion is narrow at less than 1/2 of an inch wide. Although narrow it does an excellent job of sticking to the tab landing zone on the front waistline with good performance sticking to all other parts of the outer shell. Unfortunately, the sticky tabs do not stick at all to the front wings.
The inner padding is rather simple without any texture, color, or pattern to it, unlike other brands. It is also slightly thicker than other size three's on the market. We like that the absorbent padding runs all the way up to one inch from the front waistline, making it a good choice for stopping leaks. Although the absorbent padding is slightly slower at absorbing liquids, it scored the second-best score for driest diaper after our moisture tests. This is one of the most important test results, as the drier the results, the less likely a rash is to set in. Finally, the standing leg gathers are on par with other brands at 1.5 inches tall and run nearly the entire length of the absorbent padding at 10 inches in length.
Some of the unique features of the Simple Truth brand is that it does not have a wetness indicator, unlike non-Eco-friendly manufacturers. These have a very tall yet narrow Velcro-like sticky tabs that ensure a snug fit around your baby. Simple Truth is one of the only brands to manufacture outside of the United States. They are made in Mexico.
We like that this is one of the driest diapers tested to date, especially for an Eco-friendly brand. These have very tall sticky tabs making it easy to obtain a snug and secure fit. The back waistband combined with the stretchy wings allows it to flex with your baby as it moves. We also like the two available patterns - elephants and penguins.
No wetness indicator, very small front wings. Time to absorb moisture below top sheet was slightly below average.
