Parents Choice Diapers Review

Introduction and Cost

Today we are reviewing Parents Choice diapers in size 3. These are available in sizes ranging from newborn all the way up to size seven. These are available in counts of 36, 144, 210, and 328 for size three and are the most affordable diaper reviewed to date. For our review, we bought a bag of 36 for $4.42 at a cost of only 12 cents per unit. Purchasing in bulk only slightly brings the cost down to 11 cents per unit as a box of 328 costs $36.38 as of today.

Outer Construction

Parents Choice Kangaroo design

The outer shell has two different designs, both featuring a kangaroo. One design is racing-themed with two kangaroos that hold flags that either indicates the size of the diaper (size 3 in this case) or indicates the back of the diaper. The other design has stars and flags, and similarly, one kangaroo indicates the size, and the other is holding a star that indicates the back. The front of the diaper displays the brand name along the tape landing zone, which is helpful in remembering what to repurchase if this diaper works for your child. We liked the large and easy-to-see wetness indicator that runs up the majority of the diaper. This strip is yellow when dry and turns blue when it becomes wet.

Fit and Waistline

Parents Choice diapers have super soft and flexible rear wings. They also have a very stretchable rear waistband that allows for a generous 15.25 inches of stretch tab to tab. This makes it a good choice for babies who may be nearing a size 4 diaper but are not yet large enough to properly fit the next size up. The rear wings are also the tallest measured to date and do a good job of gently wrapping around your baby's hips for a snug fit. Like all other baby diapers, the front waistline and wings are not stretchable, and the front wings are shorter than average. The securing tabs are the tallest tabs measured for a size three diaper to date at 1.5 inches tall. This is good because it really helps keep the diaper secure by attaching to more of the tape strip across the front of the diaper. The tabs themselves adhere very well to the landing zone but still have very good sticking power if you attach them to the body diaper.

Absorbency

The absorbent material is the largest measured in terms of length at 13.25 inches. We liked seeing the absorbent padding extend all the way up to one inch of the front waistline and all the way back to 2 inches from the back waistline. This is good because the larger padding will help stop moisture from escaping from both the back and front of the diaper. The padding is unique in that it has a variety of different textures, unlike other manufacturers. The front 8.25 inches of the absorbent material is smooth, whereas the last 5 inches of the padding material is textured to help stop the movement of liquids and solids from escaping the back of the diaper. Looking at thickness, these are the second thinnest diapers tested at .14 inches thick. This thinner material will be more comfortable for the baby with a slight cost to total absorbency.

Largest length absorbent material

This diaper absorbed a total of 864 ml under pressure without leaking. This is slightly below average, but the actual absorption performance was on par with the average diaper taking 11.66 seconds to absorb the first 50 ml under the top sheet and 32 seconds for the additional 50 ml test. One thing we did not like was how the absorbent padding remained wet to the touch after waiting an additional 120 seconds. The Parents Choice diapers tied for second-worst for keeping the top sheet dry after our tests. One other thing we did not like about the Parents Choice diapers is the standing leg gathers as they are the shortest measured at just one inch when the average diaper is 50% taller. This may be a problem as taller leg gathers really help stop solids and liquids from escaping from the sides of the diaper. Finally, we did like the length of the standing leg gathers as they are the second-longest measuring in at 11 inches front to back.

Unique Features

The most affordable diaper on the market. Longest absorbing pad measured to date. Although super thin, it absorbed fast. Super flexible soft rear wings and waistline.

What We Liked

It is hard to find a size seven diaper, and Parents Choice makes a size seven (review on its way). They are available in large quantities up to 328 pieces in size 3. Smooth padding in front absorbs moisture, while a textured pattern in the back helps to stop a mess from escaping out the back.

What We Disliked

Shortest leg gathers at just one inch tall. Top sheet remained damp to the touch after the 120-second test scoring second worse to date.
